The Sherston and Tetbury branches of the Avon merge by Malmesbury’s Bowling Club at Baskerville. The Avon, as it is now known, continues towards Cowbridge and Cowbridge Weir. The river then winds its way through Great Somerford and Dauntsey on its way to Bristol flowing through Chippenham, Bradford upon Avon and Bath. Cowbridge House and its associated mill near Malmesbury, has been documented since 1773. In 1939, it was transformed from an Italianate estate into a critical World War 2 secret radar factory for E K Cole (EKCO). IT produced crucial radio and radar technology, later becoming a telecoms site for Pye TMC, Phillips and Lucent Technologies, before being redeveloped for housing in 2007.
